Foundation 1 is an extension to our school age range and is for children aged three to four. We are unable to take children below the age of three.
Mrs Heron is the class teacher and she is supported by Mrs Almond and Miss Brown. If you have any worries or concerns please feel free to speak to them at the start or end of each session.
The times of the sessions are:
Mornings only: 8.45 a.m. to 11.45 a.m
Full day: 8.45am - 3.25pm.
If your child is staying for lunch, then they will receive the menu options available for the following week. Please could you ensure you complete these and return them to school on your child's first day back.

This week we are looking closely at germs and hand washing. We will be continuing to look at how to wash our hands properly and when we should be washing our hands. There is also a little experiment we will be having a go at to check what happens when we use soap and when we don't.

A really important part of our journey in Foundation 1 is learning about forgiveness and how important it is to say sorry. This week we will learning a bit more about forgiveness - What it means? Why is it important? When do we need to say sorry?
W/c 9/3/20
This week we are continuing with our space topic. We have been learning lots of information about space and planets. During the week we will learn about a new planet of the children's choice.
We keep on enhancing our space role play area to make it it even more exciting and up to date with what we are learning. The last couple of weeks we have learnt about Neil Armstrong and this week we are going to talk about Tim Peake and watch some exciting videos from his space adventures.
This week we are having a little focus on rhyming words. We will listen to lots of rhyming stories, songs and activities. We will see how long we can make different rhyming strings.

This week we are continuing to look at the story 'Whatever Next'. Children have really enjoyed this story and it has been lovely watching them act it out with their wellies and helmet on in a card board box.
We have decided with the children that our role play area is now going to be a rocket/space station. We will be busy finding and making things to make it look amazing for all to explore and enjoy.
Lots of phase 1 and 2 activities are around the classroom for children to explore at their leisure and also be directed to for a challenge. It is lovely to see the love of writing at the moment.

Welcome back!
We hope you had a lovely half term break and children managed to have well earned break.
This week we will be welcoming all children back into the classroom. We look forward to hearing all about the exciting things children have been up whilst spending time with their families.
During the week we will having a think about what we want to learn about next in our light and dark topic. We will start by reading the story 'Whatever Next' and see where that leads us!
We are starting the week by exploring colours, paint and colour mixing.

Children’s interests about nocturnal animals and dark dens seems to be coming to end so think week we will be thinking about what we want to learn about next within out light and dark topic.
Our New Author
We have introduced the author we are going to looking at – Nick Butterworth. We will be looking at some of his books and choosing some to look more closely at.
This week we will be at how ‘Percy the park keeper’ from the Nick Butterworth stories shows love towards the animals he looks after and the environment around him. We will link this into ‘The Fruit of the Spirit’ and Valentines Day.

Winter…This week we are continuing to talk about changes in the weather and the world around us. Children have noticed it has noticed it has not been as cold the past week.
Topic – Light and Dark. This week we are going to be reading ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We will looking at ways we can turn our dark den into a bear cave. Children will have the opportunity to complete different activities based on the story. We will looking at the different setting of the story and thinking how we can re-create some of them.
Our New Author
We have introduced the author we are going to looking at – Nick Butterworth. We will be looking at some of his books and choosing some to look more closely at. Children will have the opportunity to complete a writing/drawing challenge based on a book this week.

Topic – Light and Dark. We are continuing to learn all about nocturnal animals and exploring these in our dark den. We are going to read a story about a bear and hopefully the children will want to the dark den to become a bear cave.
Chinese New Year
This week we will be learning about Chinese New Year. We will be using the internet to find out some information about Chinese New year, who celebrate it and how do people celebrate it. Lots of Chinese New Year resources will be available around the classroom. We will even be having a go at writing some Chinese numbers and doing our own Chinese dragon dances.

Winter…This week we are continuing to talk about changes in the weather and the world around us.
Topic – Light and Dark. This week we following the children’s lead with their interest of ‘bats’. This came from talking about things that happen and things we may in the dark. We have decided to create a dark den role play area. This will be added to throughout the week as the children learn what could go in there. We have also decided to focus on nocturnal animals this week and see what information we can find out.
We are going to be talking lots about numbers and how we can match numbers to different quantities. Maths takes places from the when the children arrive in school until they leave to come home. We bring it into EVERYTHING we do in the classroom. Have a go at home – count the stairs, time how long it takes to run the bath, spot the shapes. The opportunities are endless!
R.E. We are continuing to look at the story ‘Farmer Duck’. We will be thinking about how the farmer treats others and how we would treat others if we were in charge of something. This week we think about Jesus and talk about how he was King and the type of King he was.
We will be making our own dark den habitats using recycling materials. We would really appreciate any donations of recycling materials please (junk modelling boxes).

We are also going to begin talking about our new topic – Light and dark. We are not sure which direction this will take yet, that is up to the children and what they are interested in! During the week we will read ‘Owl Babies’ and discuss the story, characters and move on to talk about the feelings of different characters.

This week we are looking at seasons. We will talk about the changes we have seen in the environment and discuss what changes we might see during winter time.
RE - Our new RE Topic is The Kingdom of God. We will listen to the story 'Farmer Duck' and discuss the behaviour of the farmer and how people should behave towards each other.

This is week you finally have the chance to see the foundation Christmas Nativity and see how hard the children have been working hard practicing. We can’t wait to show you! I know the children are very excited. It is a busy week of a dress rehearsal and 2 performances.
The rest of the week will be spent completing Christmas craft activities, and continuing to learn about the Christmas Story and the meaning behind Christmas.

It’s December which means one thing…….. Christmas is starting in F1! All things Christmas will be introduced this week. Let the fun commence!
We are getting lots of practice singing our Christmas songs for the Nativity.
Children have had great fun in the role play area, creating their own birthday parties. They have been busy writing invitations, cards and thank you letters. We will continue this into next week as children are still accessing the resources.
We are continuing to look at 2D shapes in the classroom and environment. Children went on a shape hunt around the main school. They loved spotting the older children hard at work!

This week we have been learning about ‘The Parable of the Lost Sheep’. Children were really engaged with the story and enjoyed talking about what was special to them and how they would feel if they lost it.
We have also started talking about the next celebration we are focusing on which is birthdays. This will continue into next week and there are lots of provision activities relating to this that children have asked for.
Children have played lots of shape games this week, including ‘what’s in the bag?’. We have decided to have a bit if shape focus next week to follow on from their interest in them this week.
It is that time of year again ….. We have now started to practice the Christmas nativity. Children are loving the songs and actions that they are learning.

A big THANK YOU for those who attended parent’s evening, it was lovely to catch up with you all. Please don’t forget we are here to help and there is ever anything you wish to discuss do not hesitate to chat to us.
We have had a really busy week this week. We started the week talking about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies and who we are remembering. Children then had the chance to get creative in continuous provision to create their own poppies using different materials.
We have also been learning all about Diwali. What is it? Who celebrates it? How people celebrate it? The children seemed to really enjoy the story of Rama and Sita. Especially the part with the demon King who had 10 heads and 20 arms! We learnt about Rangoli patterns, Mehndi patterns and Diva lamps.
W/c 4th November
A big welcome back after half term. We hope you have a had a fun-filled week and children have had a well-deserved break. This half term already looks to be very busy!
We have started thinking about our new topic for this half term, which is ‘festivals and celebrations’. We started the week with a ‘bang’ and talked about Bonfire night. We have talked about why some people celebrate it how different ways how people celebrate it. We also discussed how we could stay safe if went to bonfire and firework displays.
We have also been having a look at some of Julia Donaldson books as this is going to be our ‘author of the half term’. Lots of children are familiar with her stories which created some great conversations as group. We have been reading The Gruffalo this week and lots of our activities in the classroom have been based around this.
Week commencing 14th October
This week the children have enjoyed reading Supertato. We have talked about the characters and whether they are kind, unkind, friendly and helpful. Children then discussed how they could be kind, friendly and helpful.
The children had so much fun making their own Supertato! They looked great!
In maths this week children counted out peas (the evil pea from Supertato) they matched the correct numeral to the amount and then had a go at putting the numbers in order.
As part of out topic people who help us we had a visit from Mr Green from RLNI, he told the children all about what he does and what he wears for is job.The children listened really well and some of them took part in role play in a lifeboat and a hovercraft. At the end the children got the chance to wear a RLNI helmet!
Next we are going to start to look at autumn and we are going to go an autumn walk to look for signs of autumn. If you see any autumnal objects whilst out and about feel free to let your children bring them in for show and tell!
Week commencing 7th October 2019
This week we have continued our super heroes topic and talked about what makes us special. We discussed that we were all the same as we are all children and we all come to Dawpool primary. But we are all different as we like different things and are good at different things and this is what makes us unique.
We drew pictures of ourselves and talked about what we we are good at and what makes us special.
Children have enjoyed using water sprays to spray numbers that have had pretend fire on, Children were really good at identifying the numbers they had sprayed.
Children have enjoyed being outdoors this week and have enjoyed catching and popping bubbles, some children even stomped on them.
Week commencing 30th September
We have had another exciting week this week in foundation 1.
We have been listening to lots of environment sounds and guessing what we think it might be, and talking about if we have head this sound before. Throughout the week we have be encouraging children to listen to what they can hear around and am sure if you asked them at home they would be keen to use their listening ears and tell you!
We read 'Charlie he firefighter' and then talked about what the children would like to be when they grow up! The children drew some lovely pictures and were great at describing their role in the job!
Next week we are going to be moving on to what makes us special and unique. If you could to your child at home about any talents or things they enjoy doing. this would be great and would help in group discussions this week.
Week commencing 23rd September
This week we have had lots of fun in foundation 1. We have been talking about our senses and we used this to smell, taste, touch and listen to different things. This was thoroughly enjoyed and the children loved the taste of the lemon even though it was a little "bitter"
We have had lots of practise recognising our name and then writing it, some of us are doing this without even being asked!
We have started to talk about people who help us and how they help in different ways. This is going to be our focus for the nest few weeks.
We have busy 1:1 counting superheroes this week and recognising numbers to 10. We even had a go at writing these numbers.
Week commencing 16th September
All the children have settled in really well and they are enjoying their time at Dawpool foundation 1
This week we have continued with our superhero topic and children have had great fun making a poster about what superpower they would like to have. Children are really enjoying this topic, next week we are going to be using our senses to be a super senses super hero!!
Children really enjoyed PE this week and they all worked well with a partner to move a ball in different ways. They even collaborated together to roll the ball through everyone's legs. This team work was great to see!
WE have enjoyed the sunshine this week and children have been exploring the secret garden and our outside area.

Week beginning Monday 9th September (Week 2)
What a great first week. Everyone has settled in really well and any wobbles children may have had have been brief and they have soon gone off happily. We look forward to lots more exciting, fun filled days ahead.
We are going to have a focus author each term, this term our author is Mick Inkpen. children have enjoyed listening to stories about Kipper and friends and have used paint to create their own Kipper.
This week we have started our first topic 'Superheroes' the children have been very excited about this an have been keen to share who their favourites are. We have talked about what will make a good foundation 1 superhero and how can we can be superheroes in our classroom. We have had lots of fun making our own superhero for our classroom display board.
As the children are so eager to write their names next week are going to start to practise our name writing!

2. Collecting personal information on Our Services
2.1 We may process or temporarily store the following kinds of personal information:

2.3 eSchools websites may request cookies to be set on your device. We use cookies to let us know when you visit our websites, how you interact with us and to enrich your user experience. You can adapt your cookie preferences, although please note that blocking some types of cookies may impact your experience on our websites and the services we are able to offer. We will not, without your express consent, supply your personal information to any third party for the purpose of their or any other third party's direct marketing. 2.4 Information submitted through the online contact form on a school website is processed via eSchools, and passed directly to the school in question. This data is held by eSchools for 30 days (or in the case of failed messages, 90 days) before deletion. Once passed to the school this data is held by them and subject to that school’s privacy policy.
2.5 Schools are also able to add analytics tools and can therefore gather information on visits to and use of their website (including but not limited to, IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views and website navigation paths). Individual visitors can manage their preferences through cookie preferences, as mentioned in 2.4.
2.6 Session IP addresses are retained to monitor and safeguard against improper usage of our services.
2.7 Content on the platform (added by staff, governors and students) and website content is added directly by School Users. This information is only used for to display on the platform in the way the user intends and is not used for any other purposes by eSchools. At a time when a school ceases to use our services the content is removed within a 14 day period as detailed in our agreement with the school.
2.8 Some of our services require the school to provide access to information they require for use with those services. For example a school using our communication tool, Letters Home, which enables schools to contact parents by email regarding important school information. In this situation a school will provide eSchools with access to the email address(es) they wish to send their communication to. Schools have granular access to ensure only the required data is shared and accessed by eSchools. The data is frequently updated to ensure that eSchools only retains up-to-date data.
3. Using your personal information
3.1. We may use your personal information to:
administer our services
enable your use of our services
troubleshoot and problem solve
send you email notifications that you have specifically requested. You can manage your preferences at anytime through your eSchools dashboard.
keep our services secure, safeguard against improper use of our services and prevent fraud.
3.1.1. For the purposes of providing you access to your eSchools platform and app (ie. forgotten password/login)
3.1.2. By registering for updates, School Staff/Governors are able to subscribe to our regular communications.
3.1.3. We will use any contact details supplied in an online form for the purposes explicitly detailed in said form. For example troubleshooting and problem solving or the provision of live online training as explicitly requested by you, the user.
3.2. We will not, without your express consent, supply your personal information to any third party for the purpose of their or any other third party's direct marketing.
3.3. eSchools understands our obligation to be mindful about the data we process and only process data that is required to fulfil our obligations in providing our services; to a school who enters into an agreement to use our services and you, the user.
3.4. We will not pass your information to third parties; except for the purpose of fulfilling our services to a school who enters into an agreement to use our services and you, the user or where we are required to do so by law.
4. Disclosing personal information
4.1 We may disclose your personal information to any of our employees, officers, insurers, professional advisers, agents, suppliers or subcontractors insofar as reasonably necessary for the purposes set out in this policy.
4.2 We may disclose your personal information:
to the extent that we are required to do so by law;
in connection with any ongoing or prospective legal proceedings;
in order to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights (including providing information to others for the purposes of fraud prevention and reducing credit risk);
to any person who we reasonably believe may apply to a court or other competent authority for disclosure of that personal information where, in our reasonable opinion, such court or authority would be reasonably likely to order disclosure of that personal information;
to the school in the case of improper use on the platform by individuals
4.3 Except as provided in this policy, we will not provide your personal information to third parties.
5. International data transfers
5.1. Data directly collected by eSchools may be stored and processed in and transferred between any of the countries in which we operate in order to enable us to use the information in accordance with this policy. Any third party we use is within the EEA or they hold an existing EU SCC, as in line with requirements under the GDPR. No other third party are permitted to access the school’s data.
5.2. Personal information that an individual adds to our websites may be available, via the internet, around the world. We cannot prevent the use or misuse of such information by others.
6. Retaining personal information
6.1. This section sets out our data retention policies and procedures, which are designed to help ensure that we comply with our legal obligations in relation to the retention and deletion of personal information.
6.2. Personal information that we process for any purpose or purposes shall not be kept for longer than is necessary for that purpose or those purposes.
6.3. Data collected through analytic cookies will be retained for 26 months. Individual visitors can adapt the data collected through cookie preferences, as mentioned in 2.4.
6.4. Notwithstanding the other provisions of this Section 6, we will retain documents (including electronic documents) containing personal data:
To the extent that we are required to do so by law;

7.2. We will store all the personal information you provide on our secure (password- and firewall-protected) servers. The web service we employ has a broad range of accreditations and certifications and the data centres used ensure the data stays within the EEA.
7.3. eSchools use a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) which creates a secure connection and uses two keys to encrypt data in transit. Despite this, you acknowledge that the transmission of information over the internet is inherently insecure, and we cannot guarantee the security of data.
8. Amendments
8.1. We may update this policy from time to time by publishing a new version on our website.
8.2. You should check this page regularly to ensure you are aware of any changes to this policy.
9. Your rights
9.1. You may instruct us to provide you with any personal information we hold about you.
9.2. We may withhold personal information that you request to the extent permitted by law.
